Elanation is a sports app made for children aged 6 to 12. Kids can learn new sports skills, connect with friends who share their interests, and share their achievements with loved ones. A smartwatch tracks their progress, giving them a fun, interactive way to stay motivated and active.

Problem statement

Children today face a growing health crisis caused by increasingly sedentary lifestyles. With more technology and fewer outdoor activities, kids are spending more time indoors and doing less physical activity. This has led to a rise in childhood obesity, which can have serious long-term health consequences.

There’s a need for an engaging sports app that encourages kids to be active and promotes a healthy lifestyle. But most sports apps are designed for adults and aren’t easy for children to use. An app made specifically for children, with content tailored to their age and interests, can help them develop a love for sport and lead an active, healthy life.

App map & information architecture

Before diving into design, it’s crucial to define the scope and goals of the project: what information and features the app includes, and what it’s primarily for. Mapping a north-star vision for the product first gives the project a clear direction. With those parameters set, the team could prototype and test to make sure the information architecture matched the app’s purpose and its users’ needs.

User flows

Once we agreed which features to prioritise, the team wrote user stories and a user flow for each. This systematic approach helped us understand the experience and keep every part of the app cohesive and intuitive. Breaking the journey into smaller steps let us spot pain points early and optimise the design for usability.

Design approach

To move towards the north star, the design team took an incremental approach, releasing small features every sprint. This kept progress continuous and momentum high.

Breaking larger design goals into manageable chunks meant each sprint delivered real improvements to the experience. The iterative process let us gather user feedback quickly and make regular course corrections based on what users needed.
